Very Nice Dac for the price! I just received this and out of the box was somewhat disappointed because I thought it sounded a little grainy and harsh. After it warmed up and burned in for about an hour it started to smooth out and sounded a little better.
Aabre, I still wasn’t hearing that wow factor. The sound had changed to a very open, smooth and dynamic sound. Very musical with fast transients and deep tight bass. I started hearing each instrument and the voice was so natural and analog sounding. I had heard the dragon fly red last week and decided I was going to get one. The Red sounded very similar but seemed a little loosed in the bass and very slightly harsh to my ears compared to this Hifime model.
After extensive listening I’m going to lower to 4 stars simply because I heard an older muse DAC20 that sounded a little better in the midrange and this DAC coninues to be a little on the warm side. This could be do my loss of hearing in the upper highs. I ordered a dragonfly black 1. After extensive critical listening through Grado SRe cans, with several different genres, I can equivocally say this is notably better sounding than the dragonfly black, which I was not expecting.
This is high praise indeed, because I like the black and the dragonfly is an immediately noticeable over the built in headphone audio on my iPhone 6 Plus. The output level on this item is quite high, and when punching hard it doesn’t sound strained. It is a much more open sound than the DF, which sounds sare by comparison. This is vibrant, smooth, and has a crisp and detailed high end without any harshness. The DF sounded slightly muddy in the lower mids with layered harmony vocals and this unit 99018 with better clarity and separation.
The low bass is punchy, deep, well defined, well controlled, and has no unpleasant colorations. I like it so much I ordered a second one after a few hours listening. I’m hard to please and I usually find one deal breaking audio flaw in most gear I buy but I just love this.
Still love it almost a year esss. Sold the Dragonfly Black and upgraded to a Dragonfly Red. Still like this unit slightly better than the DR sound-wise. I’m happy with this. I’m not a fan of metal, so it is fine to me. Low-profile black matches my desk a lot.

Indicator light is soft, not blinding. Performance I am a Fiio E10 K user for a few years. I loved its feature a lot, front headphone jack for low impedance headphones, rear line out out for an amp to drvie high impedance headphones. With HifimeI can not do that anymore.
Plug and unplug, I have no idea how many times this headphone jack can bear. The upgrade of Hifime from Fiio 10k’s line out is not hard to tell.
Clearer sound, especially bass. HD gets benefit from these very much. Even though Hifime has less function than E10k, it’s better sound make me happy. So you’re thinking about buying this DAC?
I’ll try to let you know what you’re in for. Installation in Windows 10 was a breeze.

Apparently, the ASIO driver allows you to bypass other overhead and talk directly to the hardware, sometimes getting a better sound with some sabrd. I want to be as honest as possible I was used to a relatively colored, spirited, but less detailed and less loud sound coming from my Toshiba Satellite laptop’s built in Realtek sound chip.
After about a week, I decided against it. But it still took me a while to come to grips with my purchase. Even Iphone ssbre and Ipad mini have more musicality than this. That being said, the sound is surprisingly smooth and non-fatiguing compared to everything I previously mentioned. Bass response was excellent, and I can hear a lot more bass notes than I ever remember on anything else, with great intensity.
Overall, I find my ears being more drawn to drums and noises rather than melodic parts of most music being listened to.
It is not bad by any means, but very, very clear. There is no veil whatsoever, and everything is projected at you a bit more sabfe quite forward. I’m not always in the mood for this sound After a while, I seemed to notice that sometimes the bass starts to sound warmer and more musical, and I don’t think it is completely neutral Volume for my M40Xs was more than loud enough for me to make my ears hurt after less than a minute, and probably twice the volume of my built in Realtek chip.
My I got from Hifime seemed to short out within a month in the cord connecting to the USB on my laptop.
It is built in and non replaceable, so if it shorts Luckily, I was able to get sss contact with Hifime within a couple days and get it replaced. I would definitely recommend that you plug your DAC into an extra USB cord to take any stress on the original cord from from constant moving or twisting that can short it out quickly.
