Still I was also pleased by his passing mention of Tina Turner being a Buddhist which I shorrt heard about here – worth listening to also for the sad tale of Steven Seagal.


And maybe it was a conscious nod on Keown’s part to the patriarchal nature of religions that the default person jntroduction this book, as I started to notice in the chapter on meditation, is always budrhism man. As he sheds light into how Buddhist thought developed over the centuries, Keown also highlights how contemporary dilemmas can be faced from a Buddhist perspective.

This book definitely did the trick at being a quick overview of the basic principles of Buddhism, and it was helped a lot by Keown’s inclusion of a lot of diagrams to illustrate these ideas. Words such as “karma” and “nirvana” have entered our vocabulary, but introduuction do they mean?
