Wow – Kauflin spares no words and gets below the surface when it comes to issues that often arise between music leaders and the pastor of a church. I do not completely agree with a few of his conclusions, but for the most part I think every Christian–especially church leaders–should read this book.

It has really shaped my mind in understanding the concept and life of Worship. The first deals with the worship leaders in five short chapters. I was encouraged and instructed.
By looking at my life outside of Sunday morning. Bob Kauflin finds a great balance here. This book helped me see music and worship as bigger and more glorious than just songs on Sunday morning.
I would recommend this book to anyone who takes part in leading singing or is interested in learning more about worship, but for those who are short on time I would HIGHLY recommend simply reading Section 3 – Healthy Tensions. We do often in our culture forget who the music, the worship is for. He does an excellent job at pointing out all the issues with the term that I would have raised and makes no effort to defend the term from them. What is mmatters, what should be important?

Ultimately we separate ourselves from the God who drew us to worship him in the first place. That’s why it’s so important to think carefully about what we do and why we do it. In fact, the moment we veer from what is true about God, we’re engaging in idolatry.
